Max Kalehoff: Speaking at trade shows falls into the same bucket. So many people and companies will jump at the opportunity for exposure, and even cover the T&E in the process. The result? I think that's the reason most conferences really suck now. Wouldn't show producers, like editors, be better off paying speakers for their work? Despite reciprocating value, it would drive up the competition and quality for such venues and productions. Like in the online world, the conference circuit is experiencing a glut. As both a speaker and occasional sponsor, I stay clear for the most part, unless there is unquestionable value for the exposure, or some other meaningful exchange.  Feb. 16, 2010, 11:40am
